Guardianships and Conservatorships

Mohrman & Kaardal has vast experience in representing parties in disputes regarding conservatorships and guardianships. Our attorneys have practiced in probate court in all of the metropolitan counties.

Generally, a guardianship or conservatorship dispute involves an elderly person who lacks capacity to make decisions or is being unduly influenced. Many disputes involve someone apparently taking advantage of the elderly person. Sometimes the cases involve a last will and testament being changed or a large “gift” being made.

Mohrman & Kaardal's guardianship and conservatorship practice recognizes that mental and physical issues are often most effectively dealt with in partnership with health care professionals. Lynne Ploetz, R.N., MSN, President of Matrix Advocare Network, states, "Relatives helping seniors or people with disabilities often turn to lawyers when health care professionals are really needed first to sort out the health issues. Matrix AdvoCare Network provides highly skilled, expert registered nurse Care Consultants who will visit the client and provide an objective assessment of their actual abilities and needs."  You can link to Matrix AdvoCare Network's here:

In these cases Mohrman & Kaardal works with health care professionals to determine what is in the best interest of the elderly person. Once a need for a conservatorship or guardianship is established, we represent the interested person in the process of filing the petition in district court.
