Running a business is not easy. When an establishment faces difficulties due to permits and other regulations, it can be even more challenging to simply keep operations going. In some cases, business owners in Minnesota and elsewhere my feel the need to combat the restrictions that local government places on them if it hinders their business significantly.
It was recently reported that a nightclub in another state has filed a lawsuit against the city in which it operates. The owners of SkyZoo, a bar and nightclub, claim that the city has harassed the business and unfairly revoked the establishment’s Special Exceptions Permit that allows it to operate as a nightclub. The lawsuit indicates that the owners do not believe that they received a fair and impartial hearing regarding the status of the permit.
The owners also allege the following issues could result from the permit revocation:
- The establishment would have to reduce its business hours.
- The number of patrons allowed on the premises would also have to be reduced.
- The revocation impairs their legal rights and privileges to operate the establishment as a nightclub.
Cases such as this one that involve local government revoking permits or otherwise restricting the business that an establishment does or can continue doing can certainly prove complicated. There are often many individuals and legalities involved, which is why it is sometimes necessary for businesses to combat the rulings against them. If Minnesota business owners believe that they are facing unfair treatment, they may also want to look into their legal options.
